A Biblical Explanation of “Fitness tests”
The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
Adam and Eve were sinless before the fall, their relationship was perfect, and she was happy in the role God had placed her in as Adam’s helper.
After the fall, that perfection was lost, and one of the consequences for Eve was that she would rebel against God. As we can see all around us in society, that rebellion includes her “place” in God’s order of things, and her “place” as man’s helper. As such, after the fall neither Adam’s headship nor Eve’s help would be a “given”, but something “Eve” would rebel against, and a burden for “Adam” to deal with whenever her sinful nature rebelled in this way.
God’s curse makes this clear:
Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”
This could be what “fitness testing” is really all about – woman’s sinful nature rejecting God’s order of creation and her place in it by testing the authorities God has put into place. It could also explain why, when men “pass” such tests, women feel so much better – they’ve been corrected, put “back on track” as it were, and can resume being what God created them to be.
